I thought it would at least have features to upload files or at least sync files with site server. Wasted $5.99!!

I think this is a great editor on the iPad, but the App Store version should have the ability to quickly preview HTML or markdown in a browser. Thats a big plus of the iPad version.
Have used the ios version with iPad exclusively (and rate it 5 stars) and when I got my new mac I purchased the mac version. Greatly disappointed. Had hoped to be able to use the mac textastic version mostly in the office alone. Unfortunately, the mac version lacks two things - a browser to open a website in the app (like the iOS version does) and an iCloud that accepts folders. I can live without the iCloud part but a mac version that does not operate like the iOS version with browser is worthless in practical work. Please fix this. In the meantime I will stick with iPad.
This is a nice app. Im partial to BBEdit, but sometimes its ncie to have a second text editor going and Textastic fits the bill. Id feel good about recomending it to others who wanted a simple text editor that stayed out of the way but still provided a few niceities.
Ive used so many different types of text editors for all sorts of coding problems and things. Textastic is BY FAR my favorite! Its snappy, quick to open, and beautiful to look at! Not to mention the iCloud functionality!!!! Amazing for those with multiple computers and mobile devices! UPDATE: I requested the feature of "Copy as Styled Text" about a month or so ago… Not only did the developer respond quickly, but he said that he will plan on implementing it soon. Two or three weeks later, I got a message saying that it had been implemented and will be released in the next update. This developer is extremely talented, quick, and communicates with his customers! AMAZING support! Truly my favorite Text editor out there—and there are hundreds! Thanks for such an amazing, compatible and seemless experience with Textastic. It truly is TEXTASTIC!
This is my new favorite text editor. One of my favorite features is the new sidebar to navigate quickly through a directory.
It would be great if lines would auto-indent after autocompleting. It would also be great if curly brackets were automatically created in pairs on a new line also with auto-indent. These seem like pretty basic, but important features for a light-weight editor like this.
Over time this and the iPad version have added new features while maintaining usability. To me the best use of the two is being able to look at text files (like logs) attached to a email on your iPad and then be able to access it from the Mac version assuming you save to iCloud. Lots of supported file types. A nice touch is same themes for UI are on iPad and desktop version.
I purchased this with hopes that like the iPad version, this application would have FTP/SFTP/etc built in. It didnt, but I still love this editor. PLEASE build in this feature @developer!
…but in my mind, powerful code completion should be a top priority in these fast/small coding apps. When I opt for an editor like Textastic, its because I want to make changes to a file very quickly. For example, does it seem unreasonable that when Im editing a CSS file I would like it to auto close any {s I write? How about placing a semicolon after a colon? In HTML, what about closing my tags for me, or in Markdown autocompleting [ to []()? Besides this, Textastic is an awesome lightweight editor with a really responsive developer. Keep up the work Alexander!
You can not print from this App, insane.
I just bought this text editor and used for 30 mins. For $8.99, this app is not bad at all. I hope you can improve the auto-indent function. This is the only part I dont like. Sometimes, it is not convenient to hit tab all the time.
I bought this application without thought becuase I have been using the iPad version for so long and the iPad version is fantastic. I did not expect it to be the same application, of course, which is why I love it for what it is except for one thing. When I am programming in JavaScript, or any language, I would love a feature where if I highlight a word the program highlights all matching words where they exist within the document (unless this feature already exists and I am not aware of it). This feature might already be in the works for the next version but I am not sure, so I want to post it just in case. Other than the one feature, this application is the best text editor I have come across for the price, hands down.
I was pretty surprised that the Mac version of Textastic has fewer options than the iPad version. There isn’t even an integrated FTP so you’ll have to open up another program for that or transfer it to iPad through iCloud then use the iPad version to upload to your site since that DOES have FTP (weird…and hardly a streamlined workflow). It’s OK as an editor but apart from the going Full Screen option, I can’t see opening this over TextWrangler for my lightweight editor.
But application fills in the general text editor role quite nicely for me. Developer has been keeping it up to date with OS X technology (document saving model, tags, full screen, etc.) Looks great. Good code highlighting when needed. Highly recommended. Icon is a bit ugly though. I know it’s following the OS X paradigm (icons for document based applications square and at an angle) but a flatter icon a la the original iPad icon would look great in the dock.
Seriously no SFTP support? Personally this restricts this applications use to icloud and local storage. I don’t want to use a third party sftp client. I want it integrated so will use a different editor. Wish I knew this before I paid for it. iPad/iPhone versions have better support.
I didn’t like the way Java or CSS syntax looked in TextWranger so I tried this out. It works well, nice and simple. The autocomplete is an excelent feature and I love the tabs. The ability to customize more details of syntax coloring would move my rating to a 5, and if you could mimick the Terminal in OSX with a trans background I would be ecstatic! For how often I stare at code having the right colors really does make a big difference.
I am the owner of a fairly popular Minecraft Bukkit server and this application, along with Cyberduck FTP client, is a joy to use to edit those pesky YML config files that all Bukkit plugins use. Thanks for a wonderfully simple code editor!
I started using this app on IPad. Expected more out of the Mac version. Can we see printing and (S)FTP in a future update? And maybe SVN/GIT integration?
I started using Textastic on the iPad, and was so impressed I decided to check out the OS X version. I was so impressed by the apps, and wanted to support the dev, that I switched from using Vim for the majority of my work to this app.
